Everything seems blissful, but Charles is hiding a terrible secret that he had gambled on the stock market and covered his loss by drawing up bills to the tune of hundreds of thousands in his son-in-law’s name. When Maurice realises what happened, he chooses to spare Vera from finding out the truth and save her father.
