Angela Wachuka is one of Kenya's leading literary producers and publishers, and co-founder of Book Bunk Trust, the Nairobi-based organization restoring the McMillan Memorial Library and two of its branches — the subject of the documentary How to Build a Library (2025). From 2008 to 2017, she served as Executive Director of Kwani Trust, East Africa's pioneering literary journal and publishing house, where she published leading African writers including Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Binyavanga Wainaina, Nuruddin Farah, and Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor, and where prizes established under her leadership included the Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature and the Prince Claus Award. She holds a degree in Anthropology and Law from the London School of Economics, previously worked at BBC's African News and Current Affairs, and has held fellowships at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Obama Foundation.
