What is the true identity of the 'Hata' clan, an ancient powerful family in Kyoto whose name is still preserved in the names of places such as Taimata? At Shitennoji Temple, the head temple of the Japanese sect of Buddhism, we investigated what appears to be the vestiges of an ancient ritual.
